Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSAN ADAMS
Surrounded by her immediate family, on Sunday morning, January 4, 2026, Sue Adams passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. A beautiful and caring mother, daughter, spouse, sister, aunt, and great-aunt, she will be greatly missed by her four children, Jennifer (John), Christopher (Michelle), Theresa (Lee), and Lucky, as well as spouse Christopher (aka “Kit”). She was predeceased by her beloved three-year old son David Joseph Adams in 2002.
Sue will also be missed by her Grace family siblings with whom she was very close: Michael, Pat (Maureen), Kitty (Craig), Elizabeth (Jeff), Maureen (Len), Kevin (Janine), and Dan (Donna).
Sue was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of Drs. Michael and Joyce Grace, on September 8, 1962. She attended high school at la Collège de St. Boniface and completed a degree in fine arts at the University of Manitoba. It was at this time in the mid-1980s that she met Chris in the St. Paul’s College cafeteria, where they smoked cigarettes and drank excessive amounts of coffee.
Sue moved to Ottawa in 1987 after marrying Chris who was studying for his PhD. Sue quickly found a job working in a design studio, then worked at Riverside Hospital as a receptionist. In 1990, she and Chris became senior residence fellows at Carleton University for a three-year term. The young students adored Sue for her attentiveness and warmth. While in Ottawa, Sue gave birth to Jennifer (1988), Christopher (1990), and Theresa (1993). Upon moving to Toronto, she gave birth to Lucky (1996) followed by a move back to Winnipeg (i.e. Transcona) where she gave birth to David (1998).
As her own children matured, she found other ways to direct her energy that involved nurturing small children. She helped with lunchtime supervision at École Centrale and later transitioned to helping elementary school children who were falling behind in their basic numeracy. Her kindness and attentiveness were valuable assets to the school. She retired at the end of the 2022-23 school year.
For many years Sue and several of her siblings were very involved in the music ministry at Blessed Sacrament Parish. They were a regular staple at the 11:30 a.m. Sunday mass, as well as other venues and gatherings, including the annual L’Arche Christmas concert.
Sue’s warm heart and devotion to her children and the well-being of the broader community will continue to bear good things for countless years to come. She leaves behind a large hole in our collective hearts.
A funeral mass to celebrate Sue’s life will be held in Transcona on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 710 Roanoke St. and livestreamed at: https://youtube.com/live/py6BUVWjHW4?feature=share.
The family extends its deep appreciation to all the caring staff at CancerCare and the High Acuity Ward at St. Boniface Hospital Emergency.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either Rossbrook House: rossbrookhouse.ca or Thrive Community Support Circle: thrivecommunitysupportcircle.com would be appreciated.
